The Hollywood Reporter’s story on the Obi-Wan movie confirmed what 'Star Wars' fans have been thinking for years. We are finally going to get the movie we desperately want. The report also stated that Stephen Daldry is in early talks to direct the film. He has directed ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘The Hours’. The Oscar nominated director would bring an incredible voice to the project and could hopefully create a wonderful story from the amazing universe.
As a huge fan of 'Star Wars', I do not like the prequels. The only shining part of the trilogy was Ewan McGregor as the legendary Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi. His performance captured so well the character that Alec Guinness had crafted. McGregor has wanted for many years to get another chance to play the character. In plenty of interviews he has made it clear that he would be open to the project. There is no confirmation on whether he will again wear the robe.
I would like to see a darker and more personal story for the character. It would be even better in the style of a western, as the character finds an adventure on the desert planet of Tatooine. The possibilities are endless in that they could utilize the Hutt gangsters or any of the many other antagonists that inhabit the planet. I would even speculate that this film could be used as a way of explaining the lineage of Rey. Hopefully the Obi-Wan movie will become yet another powerful installment in the greatest movie series.
